SAP Data Warehouse System & The Future of SAP Cloud Analytics

As we all know, the SAP data warehouse cloud is a centralized analytics repository for data from SAP sources. As a result, data from various SAP applications and components are extracted, consolidated, and made available consistently for reporting and analytics purposes in the data warehouse.

SAP Data Warehouse Cloud works well with SaaS-based source systems because the installation can occur in the same technological environment. This enables the best possible data transmission from the source to the EDW and hence has an advantage in uploading from a cloud-based solution to a local warehouse.

Build an SAP Data Warehouse

There are three options for SAP users to create an SAP data warehouse:

  • Build and manage your SAP data warehouse using SAP’s Business Warehouse (BW) modeling and management tool based on standard SAP RDBMS databases or SAP HANA’s in-memory database and application platform.
  • Use best-of-breed SAP data integration and data warehousing technologies from third parties to extract and load data into your own data warehousing or analytics platform.
  • Utilize third-party data replication and ETL solutions with SAP BW to integrate SAP and non-SAP data better while leveraging BW’s template-based data warehousing approach.

The latest system updates provide instant access to data via pre-built business content and adapters to integrate data from various sources. It is scalable, elastic, open, and flexible, making it suitable for any size company. For those companies or organizations that have opted for a SaaS type of ERP system with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, essentials edition, the SaaS-based SAP Data Warehouse Cloud is likely the first EDW to consider. The data is in the same environment, the cloud strategy is supported, and most use cases are either not complex or primarily small.

Data Warehouse SAP: A Brief Overview of Trial Account Features

Interface

The SAP Datawarehouse Cloud User Interface is clean, intuitive, and user-friendly. The Home page contains numerous options for browsing the community, support documents, and guided films.

Administration

You can register Data Provisioning Agents on the Administration tab. It aids in the establishment of connections/secure tunnels between the SAP HANA database that SAP Data Warehouse Cloud operates on and various on-premises systems in your landscape.

Connections

Using the Connections tab, you can add connections to data sources, including remote data sources. You can only add SAP HANA, SAP ABAP, and OData Sources during the trial period. The SAP HANA and SAP ABAP source systems are linked via the already registered DP agent.

Story Builder

This feature is an out-of-the-box product tightly connected with SAP Data Warehouse Cloud that is part of the SAP Analytics Cloud plan for embedded analytics. On top of the ‘Fact’ models, the Story Builder is the go-to spot for SAP Analytics Cloud story authoring. The front-end capabilities in the trial edition are confined to SAP Analytics Cloud, but we can expect connectivity to additional front-end tools in the future.

Management of Space

The construction and upkeep of Spaces are made easier by the Space Management page. The concept of “spaces” introduces a logical division or area to which you can assign particular connections. Tables made using CSV files and objects exposed to SAP Data Warehouse Cloud through connections would serve as the inputs for models. The resulting models are a foundation for which stories for SAP Analytic Cloud can be built. Users can be given responsibilities that allow them to see, edit, and delete objects in Spaces. The UI is intriguing with a summary of the status of the Spaces to understand if Space(s) is(are) hot, cool, active, or in hibernate mode, even though only a few features are under development in the trial edition.

Security

You can manage Users and Roles under the Security tab, add/edit users and assign them roles under the ‘Users’ option. The roles option provides an overview of the many roles accessible in the system. Surprisingly, there is a ‘Activities’ tab where the system notes all the activities you perform that might be used for audit purposes.

The Data Builder

It is a space to create objects such as tables, Graphical/SQL views, and ER models. The tables can be built remotely (through connections) or locally (created using CSV files). In the trial edition, the graphical view development features are limited to joining, union, filtering, renaming and adding calculated columns.
